The modernization works were executed under full operation of the WTP and consisted mainly in the construction of three new raw water wells, including the rehabilitation of six existing wells, rehabilitation of the raw water aeration system and potassium permanganate dosing, replacing the existing settling tank with a storage tank, installation of new pressure filters (3 pairs) with a multilayer filter bed as an additional separation technology in the first stage of water treatment.

In addition, the open filters were refurbished, including repair works on existing structures. Thanks to a change in the drainage system, it was possible to expand the filter area by approx. 25%, which increased the capacity of the filters and reduced the share of wash water. As regards the water treatment technology, it was necessary to replace the wash pumps for both the pressure and open filters, as well as the blower. Also, there are new pipelines for water, air, sludge and chemicals, including fittings, and four UV lamps for disinfection of treated water.

The scope of works on the project also included a replacement of the entire electrical wiring and the installation of a new automatic control system, which will transmit operation values and notifications of any malfunction to the operator’s control room.

For environmental and energy efficiency reasons, the water treatment building was cladded with a thermal insulation system, all the windows were replaced and a heat pump was installed.
