The reconstruction of the existing arena consisted in covering the ice rink with a new roof, executing a new chilled concrete slab including distribution systems and modifications to the refrigeration system plant, demolishing the existing and constructing a new building housing locker rooms and a restaurant. Also, the arena now includes a new precast concrete stand with built-in locker rooms and a capacity of 500 seats and 136 standing places. A new car park with 50 parking spaces has been built in front of the ice-hockey arena.

The roofing system consists of a timber roof (floor plan dimensions of 73 m by 43 m) resembling the shape of an upturned boat. The load-bearing elements are made of curved glue laminated timber trusses mounted on large-diameter piles with reinforced concrete footings. The roofing system is a ventilated double-skin structure with titanium-zinc covering. New boards have been installed around the ice rink and a new polished reinforced concrete slab has been poured.

The locker rooms are housed in a new two-storey building with a foundation system consisting of large-diameter piles, strip foundation and a reinforced concrete slab. The load-bearing structure of the building is made of brick blocks, a reinforced concrete skeletal frame and slab panels. The roofing is a flat single-skin not-ventilated system with flexible PVC covering. The façade is composed of a thermal insulation contact system with silicone plaster combined with wooden cladding and fitted with circular plastic windows evoking the sea. The building housing locker rooms includes a boiler room, players’ locker rooms with sanitary facilities, a cash desk and a restaurant with a private kitchen, a glazed skybox and a terrace with a wooden footbridge to the pond dam.
