Unique medical facility for treatment of children suffering from chronic respiratory diseases
The project to construct a new build has achieved a number of key objectives: it has doubled the capacity of the sanatorium to 78 patients, improved the quality of care and the comfort of clients (i.e. children and their accompanying persons) and created better working conditions for approx. 35 employees.
The design draws inspiration from the natural beauty of the Moravian Karst Protected Landscape Area. The result is a modern and architecturally striking building that respects the natural environment and its surroundings, while also being highly functional, efficient and equipped with state-of-the-art technology. The project adheres to passive building requirements and employs renewable energy sources. The choice of white in the building’s exterior references the local limestone.
Innovative approach
The project utilised the Design & Build method in accordance with the international contractual standard FIDIC (Yellow Book). The BIM approach was employed consistently throughout the project, from the initial study to the execution of construction works.
Aside from the accommodation, the building comprises facilities for rehabilitation (including a saltwater pool), a spa centre with saunas and treatment rooms, four primary school classrooms for patients, and catering and operational facilities.
The indoor facilities include a physical therapy gym for children, while the outdoor area boasts two multi-use playgrounds. It also features additional outdoor elements designed to entertain children and exercise sets to stretch the body. The outdoor planters with seating are also worth a special mention as they were made using the 3D printing technology.
