Water Treatment Plant Seč to Undergo Modernisation
The Seč Water Treatment Plant has been in operation since 1966 and, aside from a partial modernisation in 1993, has not undergone any major upgrades. “The conceptual design and condition of the technological equipment no longer meet current needs and the requirements placed on water treatment facilities,” said František Pilný, Chairman of the Board of Vodovody a kanalizace Chrudim. “The key technological upgrade consists of a transition from single‑stage to two‑stage water treatment. A new building will therefore be constructed to house the first separation stage. The second stage of treatment will take place in modernised sand filters,” Pilný explained. To increase the plant’s maximum capacity from 30 l/s to 40 l/s, the raw water pipeline from the Seč reservoir will also need to be expanded.
The Modernisation and Capacity Increase of the Seč Water Treatment Plant project, with a total value of CZK 175 million excluding VAT, is fully financed from the company’s own resources. The project documentation was prepared by KUNST, spol. s r.o. in cooperation with VODING HRANICE, spol. s r.o. The construction and technological upgrades will be carried out by the consortium “Společnost ÚV Seč”, formed by VCES a.s. and Strojírny Milenov, spol. s r.o.
“We took over the construction site on 3 June and immediately began preparatory works. Under the contractual schedule, we have 27 months to complete the project, meaning the modernised water treatment plant should be handed over to the investor in the course of September 2027,” said Tomáš Kouba, Sales Manager at VCES a.s. “The works will also involve replacing more than 1,000 metres of 300‑mm‑diameter pipeline. Activities on the upstream side of the dam—including the replacement of intake screens, valve control elements and the intake pipe—will require close cooperation with divers,” Kouba added.
